CALL OF DUTY TO RELEASE A WORLD WAR 2 TITLE NEXT YEAR?
Call of Duty can't continue on the same path of future based titles.
If you're a fan of Call of Duty or was a fan, you'll probably agree that the last 3 years have been pretty rough for the franchise in terms of fun-factor. Of course, Activision have reported in increased profits year over year, but that doesn't mean that the fan base are enjoying their titles. Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3 and now Infinite Warfare have all been future based titles and fans of the franchise are just not enjoying them.
So why are Activision not releasing a World War 2 title? Well, the answer is fairly simple, the 3-year development cycle is the best but worst thing for the franchise. Unfortunately a 3 year development cycle means that Activision cannot really follow the trends of gaming or what their fans want because there is always 2 developers working on future titles. What this means is that the 3 year cycle is a recipe for disaster because changes of future games, for the next 2 years at least, cannot be changed. The evidence of how bad this can be for the franchise can be seen with Infinite Warfare. The majority of fans don't want to play the game and in fact, only early last year, Activision needed to ask Raven Software to create Modern Warfare Remastered to try and increase sales numbers.
Call of Duty has mainly focused on microtransactions the past 2 years in their titles to make up for lost profits and it seems to be working, but this is something that the majority of players don't want. Since Call of Duty: Ghosts, many fans believed that Treyarch was going to release World At War 2 and when Black Ops 3 was announced, we all knew that future-based titles were here to stay.
Sledgehammer Games are next to create a Call of Duty title and the release date is expected to be in early November next year and many people believe that they're working on the title we've been waiting for. At this point a World War 2 title would be awesome, but it will be equally as awesome if they just released a title with exo-boosting, such as a Vietnam themed game.
Do you think we've see a past based title after Infinite Warfare?
